Schooner Creek Resort is a family owned and operated resort that was started on Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City in 1960. Over the years, cabins were built and added as the resort grew to 27 units. Schooner Creek Resort has only had 4 owners since its inception. Leon and Jody Prior purchased the resort from Bill and Mary Beck in 1997. Prior to Bill and Mary owning it, "Big" Bill and Laverne Beck owned the resort for a lot of years until they sold it to their son Bill. Grady Smith built the first part of the resort in 1960.
Leon and Jody own and operate the resort. Prior to purchasing the resort, Leon had a CPA practice in Wichita, KS and Jody wrote tax software for CCH and helped Leon with his accounting practice. Leon and Jody purchased a "cabin" in Shell Knob in 1996 in which they still own. Leon told Jody that he was moving to the lake if he had to count screws at "Tap Jac", which was back then, the local lumber yard now known as Barton's. At that time they owned 26 rental properties, so Jody suggested buying a resort. Some days she wonders if they made the "right" move! They sold their rental properties and the CPA practice, bought the resort, and now live the life of "being on vacation" all of the time on the shores of Table Rock Lake.
Kimberling City is a wonderful "bedroom community" to retire to, although resort owners are not "retired". Leon loves the resort and the people, Jody would rather do something a bit more challenging, so she handles the computer end of the operations.
As resort owners we have had the fortunate opportunity to have met so many wonderful people from all over the world. We have so many wonderful families that come and stay with us year after year. It has been nice watching young babies grow up to be young adults. We appreciate our many wonderful repeat guests who help make Schooner Creek Resort on Table Rock Lake their second "home" away from "home"! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many guests for their continuing support of our resort and welcome new guests to our home on Table Rock Lake!
